4th June, 7 pm onwards

a Jazz Fusion Performance by HFT

You can only play what you’ve lived.”

about the performance

Drawing from almost every contemporary and some traditional styles both Indian and Western, HFT plays a brand of music that is easier termed Jazz Fusion. Relying on strong structures and simple but effective melodies HFT create a sound that is at times visual, melodic, chaotic. Improvisation is the main object of a performance hence no two performances are ever identical. The audience usually ranges from the young rocker to older people who are now into jazz and grew with the music as it was growing. The only way to find out is to experience a performance.

about the Band Members

Arjun Sen (guitar) has been in the music scene since the early 80's. He is also a composer and has composed scores to Films such as Khamosh Paani, Honey Hunters of the Blue Mountains (Green Oscar) and a number of TV serials and documentaries. His guitar style has been termed instinctive and at times unpredictable but always melodic.

Lew Hilt (bass) comes from the generation of the first rockers in the country. Starting his music career in the Kolkata Park Street music scene of the 60's, he has played with bands like High and Shiva from Kolkata, as well as with leading Jazz artists in India from Carlton Kito of Kolkata to Louis Banks and Braz Gonsalves.

It would be no exaggeration to say that Sam Shullai is “everyone's favourite drummer”. Sam has also been the drummer of choice for quite a few local albums out of Shillong (Meghalaya) and recordings by Brit Artist Liz Cotton. Sam has a fluid style that plays the song rather than a show of chops.
