Synopsis: As the
world sleeps, in the dead of night, ghost like figures of big cats roam the
fringes of the villages and the cities. They are the tigers who live OUTSIDE
the tiger reserves. And they are in trouble.
The documentary shows how
with increasing development pressures on the forest corridors outside, the
spilling out tigers are coming into constant conflict with humans, causing
alarming consequences for both. The myopic vision of the tiger planers
in India has begun to bite back.
Made over 4 years, the film
reports from distant corners of India, the mangroves of Sunderbans, the
sugarcane fields of Pilibhit, the forests villages of Ramnagar, North India and
the conflict zones of Chandrapur, straddling Tadoba Andhari Tiger reserve, the
now most famous tiger park of India. The film also travels through the
beautiful Western Ghats and the tiger corridors of central India, to capture
the contrasting policy impacts on the tigers outside. In his travels,
Krishnendu meets forest officers, villagers and scientists and all pointing at
the criticality of creating and protecting spaces for the outside tigers.
Using, infrared night vision cameras and compelling found footage, the film
brings some never seen images of tigers and leopards living on the edge of
their habitat.
The future holds anxiety
and suspense for these tigers. They may be headed for a long struggle.
Premiered on Discovery
Channel and Animal Planet, India.
