About the Film: ABU is a journey to the center of a fragmented family while they grapple with religion, sexuality, colonialism and migration. Through a tapestry of narratives composed of family footage, observation and classic Bollywood films, gay-identifying film maker, Arshad Khan takes viewers through the tense relationships between family and fate, conservatism and liberalism and modernity and familiarity.
About the Filmmaker: Arshad Khan is a multiple-award-winning filmmaker, film festival director, festival strategist and film educator from Canada. Born in Pakistan, Khan believes in cinema as a catalyst for change. He makes films that shed light on subjects that are ignored by the mainstream media. He is interested in realism in cinema and the new wave in South Asian cinema, yet not restricted to any one cinematic genre. ABU is his first feature documentary and has already won awards and critical praise around the world.
About the Kriti Film Club: This is an educational initiative of a not-for-profit organisation 'Kriti team'. We screen and share documentary films on development, environment and socially relevant issues, in an effort to influence mindsets and behaviour towards an equitous, just and peaceful world. We also curate issue based film festivals and organise documentary film shows in neighbourhoods, schools, colleges or institutions on request and otherwise. The Kriti Film Club has been screening documentaries regularly and independently (without any funding) in Delhi NCR since 2000 and in Mumbai since 2019, to promote 'thought-provoking cinema'.
