ABOUT THE FILM: The film focuses on the subject of gender being something more than a binary. It explores how the current society is pushing gender minorities to margins due to misinformation and lack of understanding about gender fluidity. The film also discusses the Trans Bill passes on 26th November 2019 and awaiting the signature of the President of India.
ABOUT THE FILM MAKERS: Sameeksha and Sumit are freelance filmmakers based in New Delhi. They have previously worked on independent news video stories, short videos with The Wire, Newslaundry, Save the Children and other organizations based in the social sector. They have studied Mass communication and Journalism from Film City Noida . 'Boxed', a self-funded project, is their first feature length documentary. In 2019, they founded the production unit ‘GAASH’.
ABOUT THITS: Telangana Hijra Intersex Transgender Samiti (THITS) is an non-funded mass organisation of people from the hijra, trans woman, trans man, non-binary and intersex communities. The Samiti has worked to organise the community and collectivise to fight transphobia at a structural and interpersonal level. The Samiti fights for jobs, education, healthcare, against atrocities, against police and family violence, against street violence targeting trans folks, against discrimination and for the right to self determination
ABOUT THE KRITI FILM CLUB: This is an educational initiative of a not-for-profit organisation 'Kriti team'. We screen and share documentary films on development, environment and socially relevant issues, in an effort to positively influence mindsets and behaviour towards creating an equitous, just and peaceful world. We also curate issue based film festivals and organise documentary film shows in neighbourhoods, communities, schools, colleges or institutions on request and otherwise. The Kriti Film Club has been screening documentaries regularly and independently (without any funding) in Delhi NCR since 2000 and in Mumbai since 2019, to promote 'thought-provoking cinema'.
