Happy Older Person's Day/ 1st October 2020

It’s INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS on 1st October

The Kriti team marks this day every year, to CELEBRATE the LIVES of all our ELDERS, in and out of our families and in our communities—older people who have spent their lifetime taking care of us and our needs, for giving us love and affection, for bringing us into this world and being by our side; old people living in families, alone or in challenging situations.

On 1st October, do something to make an older person in or out of your family and community feel special (some suggestions here)

1. Say it in a prayer (if they are no longer on this planet)

2. Spend time with them (in a family or community), have a conversation (nostalgia or contemporary as you like) or do something fun if possible

3. Cook their favourite meal and enjoy it together

4. Watch a movie or show together, just listen to some music or dance too

5. If they are unwell and not able, just sit or lie by their side, do something special for them and they will know you are there...

6. Visit them if you can, amidst the lockdown (mask and sanitiser ensured)

7. Call and speak to them, to tell them you care

8. Send them an email or have a handwritten letter delivered if you can

9. Make a video or a photo collage and share it with them so they know you are thinking about them.

10. Send them some flowers or even a plant

11. Send them their favourite food to eat and a drink too maybe (try keep it healthy and safe)

12. Send them a gift if they would like that too (find some options here www.gestures.in)

13. Make a donation to a needy elder in your neighbourhood or you can donate for an old woman in our community https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-kriti-team

14. Above all, pledge to make every day one that you remember and reach out to the elder in your life.
