AGAINST THE TIDE (97 mins/ Hindi, Koli, Marathi with English subtitles/ 2023/ Docu)

Bombay fishermen Rakesh and Ganesh are inheritors of the great Koli knowledge system—a way to harvest the sea by following the moon and the tides. Rakesh has kept faith in the traditional fishing methods while Ganesh has strayed away from them, embracing technology. This film is a tale of friendship and rising resentment between the two men, as close as brothers, against the backdrop of an adoring sea, which is increasingly turning hostile because of climate change. This animation weaves together the voices of the children, youth and women of a rehabilitation and resettlement colony in Govandi, Mumbai through art and poetry to vocalise, localise and visualise their experiences of climate change in their poorly built homes and neighbourhood.

This documentary is about the ecological body of Ladakh in relation to the human body. Both linked to change, transitions, systems within systems. Set in the current socio- political backdrop of climate crisis and action - this film is meant as an experience in the genre of non-narrative documentary filmmaking.

OUR GADHERA | STORY OF A MOUNTAIN STREAM (8:03 mins/ Non-verbal/ 2023/ Experimental)

This debut film portrays the journey of a small non-perennial spring-fed downstream, flowing as a tributary to one of the lower Himalayan rivers’. It tells us that the journey is not all gay, however, it isn't all odds either!

In this experimental short, a Miya poet takes the audience on a journey to Dhamapara char (a sandbar in the Brahmaputra river) of Barpeta district of Assam. The poet’s musings on identity, politics, power hierarchies and struggles of communities living in a constant state of flux are juxtaposed by visual imagery depicting the everyday lives of people. Watch Trailer

⁠Dir. Since 2016, Musthafa has been restoring a piece of degraded mining land tucked away in a village of Kerala into a greenland of his mind. The land then witnessed substantial changes which has since then been known as Greenara. Six years later, his daughter retraces the steps of his journey developing the land. Watch Trailer


GOMALA - COMMONS UNDER THREAT (13mins/ English, Kannada with Eng.subs/ 2022/ Docu)

Semi-arid grassland and savannas being used as grazing common land by local communities are known as Gomalas in Bagepalli and large parts of northern Karnataka. Today, they are under severe threat due to their diversion for developmental activities, encroachment by real estate mafia and industrial farmers, illegal mines and quarrying. This has severe livelihood implications for locals, particularly the poor and landless ones. The disappearance of Gomalas will also impact ecological and climate change. Watch Trailer

This short film explores the city of Udhampur, its people and the sacred bond it shares with its rivers and mountains. Rapid urbanisation has taken its toll on the river Devika, threatening its purity and vitality. The local people here remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting their beloved river. This film is an anthology that explores the idiosyncratic development of urban Bombay, and its symptomatic relationship with the ecological. It looks at the different ways in which people have and continue to access the city; issues of housing, livelihood, and the ecosystem that powers the city and how it's being depleted by elements of capitalism. Illegal coal mines are popping up in the heart of elephant reserves where a young single mother, poverty stricken and desperate, works as a labourer to fend for her family. As she innocently sets foot into the cycle of negligence, will her hard work pay off or will she be a victim to unforeseeable circumstances of a vicious cycle? Watch Trailer

MULSOTAN - THE ROOTED (27:31 mins/ Gujarati with English subtitles/ 2022/ Docu)

The documentary delves into the 32-year-old struggle of the community, in which they initially faced severe hardships and threats from the Forest Department to evict them from their lands where they have been living for generations. It captures the journey of this south Gujarat tribal community in navigating their paths amidst various obstacles and creatively combining the force of non-violent protests and technology to obtain their rightful land titles and transform their lives and of the community around them. Watch Trailer

CHANDLAI, THE STRUGGLE OF A CONSERVATIONIST (8mins/ Hindi with Eng. subs/ 2023/ Docu)

Dir. Nirmal Varma

This film is about an unheard wetland…the Chandlai lake in Jaipur, which used to be spread across 9 sq. km, but is now reduced to 2 sq. km. Around 312 species of birds have been recorded here till date, yet that wetland is not yet protected by the government and is slowly dying. It tells us about the struggle of Kishan Meena, a conservationist, who has been working to protect this lake for the past 20 years. 


COLONIES IN CONFLICT (52 mins/ English / 2022/ Docu)

Dir. Rajani Mani

This film examines the state of wild bees in a fast-developing Indian landscape. Human action is causing pollinator declines all over the world, spelling disaster to nutritional security and biodiversity of our ecosystems. The filmmaker gives a first-person account of how expanding cities are wiping out native bee populations, starting from her own neighbourhood. Watch Trailer
