The KRITI Team needs your Support
In June 1999, a small group of development practitioners and socially committed human beings came together as Kriti: a development praxis and communication team. We decided to offer our knowledge and skills to support local civil society organisations to achieve their objectives in the field. We also decided to initiate some programmes that we we believed in-the Kriti Film Club to screen documentary films regularly, Our Diary to document people's movements and conscientise newcomers in the field of development and human rights, Kriti Information Place to share useful information and communication resources for research and action, Rightscape for encouraging human rights activism and young volunteer experiences, Save Paper programme offering workshops and paper reuse-recycling options to save the environment, Gestures for providing a marketing platform for small producers to earn decent livelihoods and promote eco-friendly consumption.

We decided to keep these programmes non-funded or donor driven as we wanted them to create a demand for their existence at first and secondly we hoped that we would be able to sustain and build these programmes through our earnings as professional development practitioners. We did not realise then that we were more activists than social entrepreneurs (today we are told that we were among the first social enterprises that didn't market ourselves such). We were too busy responding to various requests for development support or networking; offering our time and energies in solidarity actions within the civil society and people's movements' space . This has been challenging to say the least and we have ignored the crisis for too long. We have stretched our non-existent human and financial resources without making a fuss about it nor stopping to do what we set out to do. Ofcourse some of the work has suffered and not achieved what it was meant to, some of it has been consistent and some sporadic. But the junoon has kept us going. However, we have not regrets as this was a decision we took when we began to try and build an organisation without funding.

The experiment now needs to come out into the open and do much more. We are taking small but sure steps towards raising resources to support and upscale our work. We need your support, direct or indirect, through donations, funding and where you may need it, our professional expertise.
