Another Poverty Film
Fathima Nizaruddin| PSBT| 26 min.| English

About the film
A black comedy that explores the mindsets behind the gross inequality that exists in post liberalized India. The film travels through a cross section of urban India; encountering a mix of middle class opinions, news telecasts, state policies and angry outbursts from those ‘left over’, the journey being further complicated by the self indulgent voice of a pseudo-intellectual filmmaker with a penchant for making up academic sounding words.
About the Film maker
Fathima is an alumnus of AJK Mass Communication research centre, Jamia Milia Islamia, and Goldsmiths, University of London. Her film Talking Heads (Muslim Women) has been screened at various international film festivals including Punto de Vista, Spain, Filmmor Women’s Film Festival, Turkey and Barcelona International Women’s Film festival. She is a recipient of the National Geographic’s All Roads Seed Grant.

The Plastic Cow
Kunal Vohra| 34 min| English

About the film
This film on animal rights looks at the impact of our almost complete dependence on plastic bags, which we use and discard carelessly everyday, often to dispose our garbage and kitchen waste. Not only are these bags a huge environmental threat, they end-up in stomach of cows, who, either because they have been discarded because they are not milking at the time or because the dairy owner is unwilling to look after them, have to fend for themselves and forage for food, which, like other scavengers, they find in community garbage dumps. The film is also a comment on the religious hypocrisy of the cult of the holy cow.

Note:The film will be followed by a discussion with the film maker.

About the Film maker
Kunal Vohra is an independent filmmaker and scriptwriter and his experience in the field of film and television production includes documentaries, social awareness television spots, corporate, CSR and training films and a few commercials. His recent documentary, The Plastic Cow, is part of an animal rights case in the Supreme Court of India. The bulk of his films in the last few years have been short, 30- and 40-second public interest films about various social and health issues, such as trafficking, climate change, diabetes, tobacco, substance abuse, AIDS, animal rights, e-waste and the environment, among others.
