Kriti Film Club invites you for its monthly special screening of music based documentaries this October 2016, followed by a discussion with the film maker.

About the film: The 18 feet symbolizes the sacred distance that the Dalits were made to maintain to ensure the purity of the upper castes. An indigenous band from downtown Kerala, 'Karinthalakoottam', propagates the music of the soul and connects people with a firm resolve. A public bus conductor is behind the exuberant squad inspiring people to break free from the shackles of caste discrimination.
About the film maker: Renjith kuzhur born in1982, hailing from Kerala, South India made his debut as a director through his film "18 feet".For this film he has won Kerala State Award for best director (documentary) in 2015 and best editor award at Mumbai International Film Festival 2016. He graduated from the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata, and is specialized in Film editing. Prior to this he was a part of the television Industry in Mumbai. He has also edited several documentaries and feature films. After graduating from the institute he entered the Malayalam film industry of South India. His achievements as an editor includes, the diploma film won the best film award at the National Students Film festival in the year 2014 and Kapila won the national award in 2015. His other works as an editor were screened at film festivals like Munich Film festival, International student video and Film Festival Beijing, International Film Festival of India, International Film Festival of Kolkata, Mumbai International film Festival, Visions du reel, Switzerland and international Short and Documentary Film Festival of Kerala.
About the film club: Kriti Film Club is an educational and research oriented initiative of Kriti: a development praxis and communication team. We offer an independent and informal space for screening documentary films on a whole range of development, human rights &environment issues. We also serve as an access space for documentary films. We have been screening documentaries every month (sometimes more) since the year 2000!
