ABOUT THE FILM: An intimate, intense portrait of the shadow cast by marital violence, through complicated personal stories of the filmmaker's mother, and her own marriage. A male friend, struggling with anger issues, who also grew up in a violent environment, opens up about the incident that ended his first marriage. As do other women, from varied backgrounds and ages, at different stages of dealing with marital violence, with many threads in common. A nuanced, insightful look at the roots of violence, the perpetuating cycles and their impact.
ABOUT THE FILM MAKER: Bindu Nair is a cinematographer, writer and director based in Pune. A graduate of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, her diploma film won two National Awards and was in competition at Busan, among other festivals. She has made short films and documentaries that explore gender, media representation and human rights, some of which were broadcast and screened at several national and international film festivals.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The Public Service Broadcasting Trust (2000) is a pioneering non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation based in New Delhi, that commissions, mentors and produces independent documentary films.
ABOUT THE KRITI FILM CLUB: This is an educational initiative of a not-for-profit organisation 'Kriti team'. We screen and share documentary films on development, environment and socially relevant issues, in an effort to positively influence mindsets and behaviour towards creating an equitous, just and peaceful world. We also curate issue based film festivals and organise documentary film shows in neighbourhoods, communities, schools, colleges or institutions on request and otherwise. The Kriti Film Club has been screening documentaries regularly and independently (without any funding) in Delhi NCR since 2000 and in Mumbai since 2019, to promote 'thought-provoking cinema'.
ABOUT THE PARTNERS: One Billion Rising (OBR) Delhi is part of a global campaign calling for an end to violence against women since 2013. The campaign started as a response to the WHO report that 1 in 3 women will suffer violence in their lifetime. Through art based activism the campaign takes up different facets of the systemic oppression of women across intersections of caste, class, ethnicity and religion.
Ever year, 30 November, OBR marks South Asia Women's Day as part of the 16 Days of Action against Gender Based Violence Campaign. Women of the region are bound by threads of history, language, arts, and culture. They also share common concerns around their safety, rights, freedoms, autonomy, and agency. South Asian Women’s Day is a day on which we come together and celebrate the South Asian women working for peace, justice and human rights this across the region.
