Kriti Film Club invites you to a International Women's Day Month screening

FATIMA
(59 min./ Hindi with Eng subtitles/ 2022/ Documentary)
Dir.: Sourabh Kanti Dutta
on 5th March 2023, 7 pm onwards
at Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi
The film will be followed by an in-person discussion with the filmmaker.
About the film: At barely nine years of age, Fatima was married off to a pimp in the red-light area of Forbesganj, a town at the Indo-Nepali border. Fatima escaped the red-light area of Forbesganj and became an activist, challenging trafficking there. As we follow her personal ups and downs, of sending her children to school, falling in love again, and trying to start a new family, we find out more about why she fights against the abuse and exploitation that has become systemic in her community.
About the filmmaker: A self-taught filmmaker, Sourabh's directorial debut 'I am Bonnie' on the tragedies, aspirations and achievements of an Intersex footballer, premiered at the BFI Flare, London in 2016, and won the National Film Award in 2017. It won the Jury Award at Mumbai Intl. Film Festival 2018 and the Best Documentary Award at the Kolkata Intl. Film Festival 2017. Set at the Indo-Nepali border, his second feature documentary 'Fatima' premiered at the 14th IDSFFK 2022 and was selected for the Indian Panorama at 53rd IFFI Goa, 2022.
