Kriti Film Club invites you for a May special screening & conversation in Mumbai
20 May 2026 (Wed.) | 7 pm | Juhu, Mumbai
THAT CLOUD NEVER LEFT
(65 mins | Bengali with English subtitles | 2019 | Docu)
Dir. Yashaswini Raghunandan
Watch Trailer
About the Film: In Daspara, a village 200 km outside of Calcutta, hundreds of toys are produced every day: rattles, whistles, windmills, all made by hand. The raw materials used are old strips of film, detritus from the archives of Bollywood. What matters isn’t so much the pictures that are used by the workers, but rather the material and the clicking sound that the strips of film make. As the villagers follow this routine with uninterrupted monotony, a few narratives leak out from the shredded analogues of film and infuse the place with phantasmagoria.
About the filmmaker: Yashaswini has recently fnished her artist-in-residence programme from the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. She works in the field of film and sound.
