Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre, New DelhiAbout the Film: This documentary traces the history of the Satpura voluntary relocation model, one of the most successful instances of forest-village relocation in India. Through slow, thoughtful conversations with the erstwhile forest-folk, as well as the officials who oversaw the relocation project itself, the film examines the pros and cons, highlights and risks of such large projects – and how they affect the landscape, its wildlife and its human custodians.
About the Filmmakers: Neha Dixit is a filmmaker based out of a hamlet in the Western Himalayas in India, with 20 years of experience making visual stories and documentary films. For over a decade her work has been focused on the concept of ‘Sustainability’. As a travel journalist in her early career, she travelled across many parts of the world and documented traditional and modern ideas that sustain an environment. As a filmmaker, she creates in an attempt to understand the possibilities of sustenance; economic, environmental, and social. Her life and work are driven by choices that are gentle on Earth. Ashhar Farooqui is a filmmaker, composer, musician & producer based in Uttarakhand, India. His experiments with film, sound and music creation are inspired by the sounds of India’s landscapes and wildernesses.
