Curators Note/ Beyond Borders Feminist Film Festival 2022

Initiated and held online in 2020 and 2021, the 3rd Beyond Borders Feminist Film Festival goes hybrid in 2022 with a New Delhi (India Habitat Centre) and an online edition (Doculive).

The festival is curated by Aanchal Kapur and Reena Mohan. It is organised by the Kriti Film Club with some support from Jagori.

On the eve of the festival, we mark the South Asian Women’s Day (30th November), with the screening of a recent award winning documentary ‘From the Shadows #Missinggirls’.

Subsequently, the festival begins a five day journey into feminist cinema from 1st to 5th December 2022, 7 pm onwards each evening, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

The online edition will begin on Human Rights Day (10th December), and continue upto 25th December 2022. The films will be available to watch on the Kriti Film Club’s online platform, Doculive.

The Beyond Borders Feminist Film Festival is held in solidarity with the Global 16 days of activism on violence against women.

The films at the festival present and promote feminist thinking and action for equity, justice, peace and sustainability of people, places, and policies, across our countries. Feminism as a way of life, a perspective, an ideology, and an action that makes the personal, political....a construct and practice that interplays gender and intersectionalities and how they affect us in our natural and physical environment.

The Delhi edition will screen 16 films, while the online festival will include approximately 45 films (excluding some of those shown in-person).

Due to the hybrid nature of the festival, audience across India, South Asia and the world will get to watch a diverse mix of feminist and gender based cinema at the festival, including short fiction, short and long documentaries, animation and music videos. The films will be followed by discussions with the filmmakers, in-person and/ or online.

The festival includes over 40 films made by students and independent filmmakers from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, most of them made between 2018-2022.
