Different themes and multiple films will play each evening. Screenings will be followed by discussions with filmmakers.

Malwa Khushan (20 mins/ Hindi with English subtitles/ 2023/ India/ Fiction)

Set in rural India, this film is a journey of two sisters, Malwa and Khushan exploring and experiencing sexuality and attraction in their adolescent years.

Forced to flee from their cherished home after a devastating now avalanche, a girl named Chuhit and her mother embark on a journey in search of safety.

The film follows Reshma, as she returns home on a stormy night with a secret that needs to be kept from her mother. Reshma and her mother occupy a strange home, a shabby little apartment that is constantly consumed by decay. As the storm persists, the secret grows more difficult to hide and old wounds begin to surface.

A daughter overhears her dad for not being as proud of her as she expected him to be, on her achievement and is heartbroken. The father, who barely expresses his emotions understands his mistake and finally cannot hold his guilt of disappointing his daughter and apologises.

Yet Another Winter (22:22 mins/ Nepali with English subtitles/ 2021 / Nepal)
A faithful mother follows the rituals of the Shaman and embarks on a journey hoping that her deaf daughter might start to hear and speak.

A performative series that aims to go beyond oral and written narratives, by centering itself on the language of body, psyche, emotions and feelings that respond to ongoing cases of violence against marginalised communities in India. Each work focuses on one incident of caste based and/or sexual violence.

Dagh Dagh Ujala [This Stained Dawn] (89 mins / Urdu and Misc. with English subtitles/ 2021 / Pakistan/ Documentary)

A feature documentary that explores the current feminist movement in urban Pakistan through the eyes of women organisers of the Aurat March (Women’s March) as a countdown to the event when 10,000 protesters gathered in Karachi on 8th March 2020.

This film explores the devastating impact of elephant abuse, particularly during religious festivals. The film paints a vivid picture of an elephant's once joyful and free life in the wild, juxtaposed with its heart-wrenching transition into captivity.

Shaikh Sana finds a video clip about her orphanage while searching the internet. It triggers memories of a dreadful time as a reclusive child (11yrs old), with her friend Rahin as her only companion. She makes this film to capture the meaning of friendship and the longing for home. The film gives her a chance to discover a sense of purpose and self-worth.

This short revolves around a woman reclaiming her space from the grip of patriarchy. In a family gathering, her hunger grows, but she must wait as the rules dictate that men eat first.

Champaran Mutton (24 mins/ Vajika & Hindi with English subtitles/ 2023/ Fiction)
Dir. Ranjan Kumar
A small story of a sweet family based in Bihar and their day to day struggles spun around a motive leading to cook and relish Champaran Mutton (a local Bihari delicacy). The film also explores caste politics and discrimination as an underlined theme.

No City for Women (94 mins/ English & Hindi with English subs/ 2023 / India/ Documentary)
Dir. Rangan Chakravarty
Gurgaon, India's Millennium City, promises many opportunities - but, for women, it also poses specific challenges. Through women's personal narratives, the film explores their experiences of living and working in Gurgaon and illuminates the gendered nature of urban Indian life.

A well-known cricketer‘s sexual orientation becomes a hot topic in social media and he tries to isolate from his team mates, friends and family. He becomes suspicious of his partner and a popular singer who lives next-door tries to reconcile them. Finally the cricketer’s mother arrives at his home and meets his partner for the first time.

Parlingi [Beyond the Border] (12:10 mins/ Marathi with English subs/ 2023/ Documentary)

Loneliness is terrible. In fact, it’sthe worst of all things. And what if our society is inflicting this loneliness over a certain community years after years? How would THEY survive, our fellow transgenders? The film goes on a quest to dig into their world and unfolds their realities.

A portrait of the director, Anand Patwardhan’s parents, whose families were intertwined with Mahatma Gandhi and India's independence movement.

A young deaf girl living in a rural village in the tiny Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan faces isolation due to her family and society's inability to integrate her.

A personal documentary about longing and long-distance relationships. The film navigates the doubts of the filmmaker about her partner and their relationship as she tries to break away from certain patterns. It asks the question of what is "Ideal" and if it is worth chasing.

Together (22 mins/ Hindi with English subtitles/ 2021/ India/ Fiction)
Dir. Azad Alam
Desperate to make ends meet during Covid19, Munmun, a migrant domestic worker and mother of two kids takes on the risky job of nursing her ex-employer Rekha’s husband. The two women, who were at loggerheads in the past, find themselves under the same roof during the lockdown.

Deepa, a housewife, is captivated by the tempting aroma of a mutton dish cooked by her neighbour, Sunaina. Due to her vegetarian lifestyle, Deepa hesitates to taste it. As Sunaina prepares to move to another city, Deepa finally finds an opportunity to taste the dish that gives their friendship an unexpected turn.

The film revolves around two young lovers Badal and Rakhi, from the rural scapes of West Bengal. The the narrative focuses on the troubles of migrant workers stuck afar during the Covid19 pandemic and its impact on their near and dear ones. 

A Winter's Elegy (18:00 mins / Bhojpuri with English subs/ 2022 / India / Documentary) 
Dir. Aakash Chhabra  
In the cast-off town of Panipat in North India, the history of fabric is fused with that of its migrants. A young textile worker retells the modern history of this city, once known for its battles. The film essay ruminates on the memort of clothes and the desires of women workers who work all day in the ultraviolet lights longing for sunshine.  

Dojahan (74 mins/ 
Bangla with English subtitles/ 2021/ Bangladesh/ Documentary) 
Dir. Ratan Paul
This docu-fiction tells a story that reflects the stories and truths recounted by many Bangladeshi female domestic workers from different communities returning from the Middle-East. It portrays the struggle and the inner strength of those women, despite the mistrust existing in their community against their stories.
